It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year!

We’ve all heard of the nostalgic phrase “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” To most, it means that Christmas and the New Year is here. To the seasoned hostess, it means the perfect time to restock your hosting stash. Just after New Year’s Day is the optimal time to find the best deals on disposable champagne flutes, the prettiest paper products and so much more.

December is typically the time of year I stock up on items that I may need for entertaining over the next couple of months or the next holiday season. With stores trying to unload their Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s inventory, you will find steep discounts and even additional coupons for a steal. So clear out a little extra room in a cabinet or your pantry. It’s time to go shopping!

For disposable items, I recommend checking out your neighborhood – Target, Michaels Craft Store, A. C. Moore Craft Store or dollar stores. You can’t go wrong with grabbing the items in certain colors – white/ivory, silver, gold or black. Occasionally, I like to snag a few items in a deep navy or emerald green. They can be incorporated into several beautiful tablescapes and generally go well with my home’s decor.

For reusable items, I recommend TJ Maxx, Homegoods, Ross Clothing Stores, Marshalls, Bed Bath & Beyond and IKEA. Homegoods and Marshalls always have great items around the holidays for entertaining, especially bar related items. I tend to snag as many of these items as I can when they go on sale because they make amazing gifts for the host or hostess! You will also find great festive linens and other items to make a tablescape your guests will love!

Bed Bath & Beyond have great sales after Thanksgiving on serving dishes and utensils. Don’t forget to stack your coupons! IKEA usually has a great sale on stemware. A well-prepared host or hostess should have a set of 6-8 of stemware.

Stocking up on these items at deeply discounted prices has several benefits – not only save you money, but it saves you time! Time is always of the essence when hosting. You want to give yourself enough time tend to the thoughtful details, not going from store to store, because you forgot the beverage napkins. Remember, time is money when hosting!
